It’s so much fun to stay outdoors during the summer. There are so many activities we can do. We can go swimming, have a picnic and play sports outside. However, we all know that staying under the sun for a long time is bad, not only for the skin but for our health. Over-exposure to the sun’s ultraviolet rays causes sunburn, heatstroke and skin cancer.
It is recommended to always wear sunscreen before going out. It helps prevent the sun’s ultraviolet radiation from reaching the skin. Regular use of sunscreen reduces the risk of skin damage and skin cancer. But during the summer, the sun is extremely hot and sunscreen is just not enough.
After-sun products are created to refresh, hydrate and soothe the skin after being exposed to the sun. After-sun products can be in the form of creams, gels or sprays. They have a high water content to cool and hydrate the skin. Most after-sun products also contain healing properties to reduce the redness of the skin and to support the skin’s regeneration.
You can actually make your own after-sun spray made with essential oils. The natural ingredients can soothe skin redness and rejuvenates the skin after staying under the sun.
Witch hazel - has a soothing and refreshing effect, reduces itching of the skin
Aloe Vera gel - reduces inflammation and moisturizes the skin

Jojoba oil- easily absorbed by the skin and has no distinct smell
1. Add 2 tablespoons of witch hazel, ¼ cup of aloe vera gel, ½ teaspoon of Vitamin E, and 2 tablespoons of Jojoba oil in a glass measuring cup and mix well.
You can store this after-sun spray at room temperature but you can also keep it in the refrigerator. After a fun day in the sun, spray your cooled after-sun spray on your skin. Make sure to avoid the area around the eyes. Gently rub the mixture in. Spray at least a couple times a day or when needed. The cool after-sun spray made with essential oils feels amazing after a hot day in the sun! The essential oils also give healing benefits to the skin.
