Shaving is the act of using a razor to remove the tip of the hair shaft that pokes out of the skin. Some men shave the hair on their faces. Some men don’t shave at all. They grow beards and mustaches. Some women shave their underarms and legs.
Shaving is a cheap way to remove hair. It can also be done at home or anywhere you are, as long as you have a razor, some warm water, and some soap, shaving foam or gel. A razor is a sharp blade that cuts the hair off close to the skin. An electric razor is easier to use and less likely to cut the skin compared to a regular razor.
It’s not that easy to shave since razors are sharp and can cause cuts. Shaving can also cause skin irritation and other problems such as razor burn, bumps, nicks, and ingrown hairs. Shaving also doesn’t last long, the skin may stay smooth for as little as a day or as long as 3 days. Hair may also feel stubbly when it grows back after shaving.
To achieve a truly effective, smooth and irritation-free shave, a wide range of shave products were created. Among these are shave oils and shave creams. Shave oil is a pre-shave product that lubricates the skin. It is designed to protect the skin from irritation, cuts, and nicks during shaving. Shave cream is another product designed to hydrate the skin, soften facial hair and lubricate the face for a smooth shave. It prevents dragging and tugging by creating a slick surface on the skin.
Shave oil can be used on its own but some prefer to use both shave oil and cream for. Better shaving experience. Combining the two can give maximum protection for the skin since each product works differently. Using shave oil and cream can reduce, (if not prevent) redness, itchiness, and ingrown hair.
Most shave products contain alcohol and other toxic ingredients that are harmful to the skin. These toxic ingredients clog the pores while alcohol dries out the skin and can worsen irritation. To avoid these negative effects, you can make your own shave products. It’s easy to make a natural shave oil using essential oils and other natural, non-toxic ingredients. Not only is it safe but it also helps you save money as well. You only need a few things to make homemade shave oil.
Unscented Castile soap - a natural, non-toxic, biodegradable soap that can be safely used on the body in many ways.
Essential Oils (choose only one)
Lavender - balancing, relaxing and soothing
Frankincense - maintains radiant skin and supports skin health
Tea Tree - cleanses and reduces the appearance of blemishes
Carrier oil - choose from Argan or Jojoba Oil. Both are not greasy and do not clog pores
DIRECTIONS:
1. Pour castile soap and fill the bottle about 3 inches from the top to allow room for the pump top and essential oils.
2. Add 20 drops of Lavender Essential Oil (or another preferred oil)
3. Add 10 drops of Jojoba Oil (or Argan Oil)
4. Put pump top onto the bottle.
This homemade all-natural shave oil can be used by both men and women. Use your homemade all-natural shave oil to prepare your skin before using your razor. Let the natural oils sit on the skin for about a minute or two before shaving or before applying shave cream if you choose to. This will lock in the skin’s hydration, soften the unwanted hair and create a slick surface for the razor to glide over. Using natural oils leaves the skin conditioned and moisturized after shaving. The scent of the essential oil also gives a soothing effect that boosts your shaving experience.
