Do you have mold problems at home?
Mold is a common problem at home. It is a type of fungus. Mold can be found indoors our outdoors and grows in damp, warm, humid environments. Mildew is the type of mold that thrives in the home. It is white or grayish in color. It usually grows in shower stalls and bathrooms.
Mold reproduces by forming spores that can travel through the air. These are tiny spores that are invisible to the naked eye. These spores travel through outdoor and indoor air and when they land on a moist surface, mold can start to grow.
Bathrooms, shower stalls, and basements are typical moist areas that are susceptible to mold growth. Mold can also grow on other moist areas of the house such as the drywall, ceiling tiles, carpets, furniture, ductwork, roofing, paneling, wallpaper, under sinks, and the areas around plumbing pipes. Mold can appear in different colors. It sometimes appears in spots accompanied by a musty odor.
Not only do molds look disgusting, but they also cause health effects because of the allergy-causing substances that mold spores release into the air. Allergic reactions to mold are the most common health effects of mold and they can happen immediately or develop after a period of time. Some symptoms and signs of mold allergy are sneezing, runny nose, coughing, wheezing, watery eyes, redness of the eyes, itchy eyes and skin irritation. Mold spores may also cause asthma attacks. Some people may also develop severe reactions to mold exposures and experience fever and difficulty in breathing.
It is impossible to totally eliminate all mold spores inside the house. However, mold growth can be prevented by controlling moisture in the home.
